Bio

Formerly "CAM" is an award-winning American songwriter, producer, and engineer from the Southside of Minneapolis. Emerging in 2013 as CAM, he brought raw performances and the traditional Hip-Hop approach to the Twin Cities underground scene, quickly carving a unique lane with fusions of jazz, rap, cultural nuance, and textured sonic cues. As COVID began shutting down live opportunities, an intense digital output under the new monicker Formerly "CAM" began with his early discography as earning 100k+ global listens and winning him original composition and production at 2019's Pandemic Film Festival for "the H". During the 2020s, Formerly collaborated with UK band Loathe on "Days" and released his debut studio project "The Horn Effect" (2021). His follow-up "I'm Young, I'm Alright But I Might Die" earned a double feature on MPR's The Current alongside guest feature on Exxe's "Nine to Five." 2022 to 2023 brought various projects with Don't Want To Be Here Anymore" and "Run Me Them Rackz" standing out for tackling social commentary while paying homage to the Midwest, earning his first in-person interview on DogStar. In 2024, he dropped the SoundCloud/Bandcamp/YouTube exclusive "LSM" followed by print features in Bold Journey, CanvasRebel, and Voyage (Minnesota). 2025 is looking to be marked a breakout moment with "Dowmedy" and its standalone music video "With Woundz" exploding, ranking as his #2 most viewed video on YouTube in under 150 days and 250k+ views across platforms in only six months. "Dowmedy" would become trending audio on Facebook, and Instagram, social media promotions propelled him to #1 content creator in Minneapolis and #5 in Minnesota on Triller, and made him the first American artist featured on the UK's UNKOVA opening doors to a Tiny Desk contest opportunity, a finalist finish in Ernie Ball's 2025 Battle of the Bands for Warped Tour, and quarter-finalist spot in America's Next Top Hitmaker for Global Citizen Fest. His latest feature includes indie darlings Mostly Minnesota covering "With Woundz" and its layered message to his city. Beyond music Formerly currently partners with Cameo, Hulu, and Sam's Club to give back to international fans and his local community offering above-average perks like 50% discounts and 30-day free promotions (U.S. residents) to open line questionnaires on content, music, engineering and more. His art is the bridge between creativity and activism, aiming to inspire hope, foster connection, and create lasting impact through adversity.
